Above the doorway hangs an extraordinary sign. Rather than painted wood, it is an intricate assembly of polished brass gears, tiny counterweights, and delicate escapements. Every few moments, the entire sign rearranges itself with a soft chorus of clicks before settling once more into perfect alignment.
It reads:
Tick & Tumbler Precision Works
Locks. Latches. Hinges. Safes. Curiosities. Repairs.
Below, in lettering scarcely larger than a thumbnail:
"If it opens, closes, clicks, catches, slides, swings, seals, or stubbornly refuses to do any of the above, we'd love to have a look."
