    the carthian rift

Carthia was a holy site to ancient elves of Othell. They believed it was, quite literally, the place from which all life was birthed-- that the great canyon separating Othell and Morvane was a portal between the primordial Feywild and the Material Plane, through which all gods ushered their creations.

Millennia-old writings indicate that there was once a great stone bridge spanning the Rift, a work that nothing in nature could have created but that no being could claim, indicating the ethereal nature of the canyon and the will of the archfey gods that their creations should go forth and thrive together. The bridge no longer exists, and most scholars agree that it was destroyed somehow during the Render.

The canyon itself is huge and otherworldly. The walls descend at odd angles, some parts stone or clay, other parts that seem to be made entirely of shrubs and groundcover plants. Mist hangs heavy along the bottom of the canyon, and when it shifts, you can see a river, and all manner of greenery: ferns, moss, even trees sprawling up and spreading their branches as if to hide the Rift from mortal eyes.

You can see in some places where game paths have worn small trails down the cliff face, and as your eyes take in more and more detail, some ladders and stairs dotting the face of the Orcish side. A draft passes through the canyon every now and then, shaking the trees and causing an ethereal gale to sound.
