Kaldor
To say the air was simply cold is an understatement.
The air was cold, colder than the embrace of death, the kind of cold that seeps inwards into your bones and never truly leaves once it’s settled within you. Each gust of wind blew the frigid air inwards and downwards into the long-ago scorched and blackened walls of the monstrous crater, each twisted and gnarled tree jutting upwards out of its sides providing little to no protection from the gale’s harsh embrace. The wind is pressed ever downwards and through the cracks and fragments of civilization that once laid within, an eerie, echoing whistle reverberating outwards and throughout this entrapment of stone, faintly reminiscent of the screams of the dead and dying, a sour effigy of the lamentations of men. It blows across the stones and through the crevices and crumbling ruins of the abandoned tower, caressing its ancient and decayed form, only to slide outwards and past, billowing across the stones and sending the tattered remnants of banners and curtains fluttering, as if struggling to escape its wretched and unwanted touch.
A single chunk of stone plummets downwards from the top of the tower’s stone edifice, its impact disturbing the eerie, whistling melody, scattering ice and ash in its wake. The disturbed snow is held aloft, slowly drifting as it swirls within the wind, giving off the illusion of an ethereal dancer, moving in harmony with the wind’s melody, but it fades as swift as it comes. It would be clearly evident to any traveler that only two forces held dominion over this forgotten city; age and cold. Nothing was untouched in their wake, each building cracked and fragmented, ruined from age, all gilded in the harsh garments of frost and bygone times.
